Croeso...

Hello, I’m Kathryn, and together with my husband David, I run CrefftÅ· – a small creative business based in Gorslas, near Llanelli in West Wales.
Together we have one adult son who’s rugby mad and we also own a loving border collie called Seth.
Alongside our full-time jobs as art teachers , we share a lifelong passion for making and creating. Our home is always buzzing with creativity, which is why we chose the name CrefftÅ· -meaning “The House of Crafts.”

My background is in Installation Art and Arts Management which I studied at Dartington College of Arts. Since 1998, I’ve worked as Head of Art in a local Welsh medium comprehensive school, where I’m a jack of all trades, however, I’m most comfortable working with fabric, colour and stitch. In my 30 years as a teacher and educator I’ve also worked as an Expressive Arts advisor, an Art and Design examiner along with for various other roles in my career.

Teaching and mentoring children and young adults has been a huge part of my life. There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a skill or talent develop in someone, and feeling so proud when they succeed and follow their own creative journey.
CrefftÅ· has given me the opportunity to return to my own practice – creating pieces with fabric, stitch, and imagination.

Now is my time to focus on my creative journey!
Alongside my school work, I’ve also run printing and textile workshops in my spare time, sharing my passion for making with others.
This is something I intend to offer more of in the future through CrefftÅ· – giving people the chance to explore creativity, learn new skills, and enjoy the process of making.

How It Started...
CrefftÅ· began in January 2020, when a close friend asked me to create a portrait of their chocolate Labrador as a gift for her husband’s 50th birthday. I shared the finished piece on my social media, and I couldn’t believe the response – the number of likes, comments, and messages was overwhelming!

That was the moment I realised there was something special in combining my love of textiles with the joy of creating meaningful, personalised artwork.
From that first commission, CrefftÅ· has grown into a small business that I’m truly proud of.
Future Plans
At CrefftÅ·, I believe creativity is for everyone.
Alongside making my own work, I love to share skills and ideas through practical workshops.
Workshops will be available in the near future, both locally in West Wales and possibly online. Topics will range from seasonal craft projects to more in-depth sessions on textiles and stitch.
Each session is hands-on, with plenty of opportunity to experiment, ask questions, and leave with something unique you’ve created yourself.
